PE & Sport Premium Funding
The Government provides funding to schools to support the delivery of high-quality physical education. This funding is designed to support schools in 5 key areas:
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
- A broader experience of a range of sports and physical activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
PE and Sport Premium Transition Update 2026-2027
The Government has announced that the current PE and Sport Premium funding model will transition to a new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network, expected to begin operating from Spring 2027. As part of this transition, the Government has confirmed a £150 million transitional payment for primary schools for the 2026/27 academic year, alongside continued investment in PE, school sport and physical activity.
For the 2026/27 academic year, schools will receive a one-off transition payment through the existing PE and Sport Premium funding allocations. Schools can use this funding throughout the academic year to support high-quality PE, physical activity and school sport provision.
Schools should continue to invest in approaches that build capacity, create sustainable improvements and deliver long-term impact. This includes focusing on the Department for Education's five key indicators

At Perran-ar-Worthal C.P. School, we are committed to ensuring every child benefits from an inclusive, varied and active PE curriculum. We have invested our PE & Sport Premium in:
- Specialist CPD to enhance PE lessons, access to transport& equipment to increase the range of sports we offer
- Targeted opportunities for all children to access a variety of novelty activities and providing ease of access for children who are less active through our partnership with 'DT' coaching
- Training and resources to improve the quality of teaching in PE and sport
- Increased access to Inter-school competitions and collaborative events with our partner schools
Partnership with Penryn College
Along with other Penryn Partnership Primary Schools, we continue to work closely with Penryn College, committing £3,000 per year to develop key areas, including:
- Accessing an extensive variety of inclusive sporting events of varying competitive levels
- Develop confidence through increased competition over the years at primary school as skills are consolidated
- Developing sports leadership opportunities for pupils
- Strengthening competition pathways across the partnership and supporting transition to secondary school
- Hire qualified sports coaches to work with primary school children as part of our Fab Friday programme
- Support and involve children to have a positive relationship with movement and sport, especially our least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs
- Provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
- Increase pupil’s participation the School Games
