Perran-ar-Worthal Climate Action Plan.
Children at Perran-ar-Worthal prove themselves to be not only school and community minded but also very much globally minded.
Through learning in Pupil Voice lessons and across the wider curriculum, children are informed and empowered to be proactive community members by being encouraged to create change on a school and community level.
Successes so far:
2025-2026: Year 4 studied the impact of plastic in our oceans and wrote to UK supermarkets to ascertain whether they were attempting to reduce the amount of plastic used in their supermarkets.
Year 5 researched the reduction of biodiversity in the UK and the causes of this reduction and researched created posters for their local communities to encourage maximising biodiversity in back gardens through simple effective ideas.
Year 3 learned about the dangers facing hedgehogs in the UK and actions each end every one of us can take to help the population increase. Year 3 also learned about reduce, reuse, recycle and created a Christmas Light from recycling.
2024-2026: Year 4 studied the impact of sewerage, plastic and overfishing. We organised a beach clean and collected 6 black bags of rubbing from a local beach.
Year 6 raised money to purchase bins throughout the school for soft plastic collection, composting and recycling. They also presented to the whole school about responsible usage of these bins and how they would benefit our local environment.
Perran-ar-Worthal Climate action plan
In line with government educational expectations, our Perran-ar-Worthal Climate Action Plan will encourage and support children to take structured and responsible action around sustainability and climate change.
Our plan is delivered through pupil voice lessons, geography lessons, forest school sessions, grow zone learning and cross-curricular links. Each unit of learning will focus on one of these four key areas:
- Decarbonisation
- Biodiversity
- Adaptation and resilience
- Climate education and green careers goals
